Memorial Day weekend aquaponic system update! We added two more grow beds to our system. The first picture is the day we installed it and the second one was taken today. As you can see, there are a lot of changes. Cass and dad built the table while I cleaned 4.5 bags of ciders. Cass also built a step stool so we’re able to reach the plants in the center. We moved some plants around to make room for more.
We added four new tomato plants. We now have a bed dedicated to just tomatoes. Two of them are a celebrity variety and the other two are Kewalo which is a variety that was bred at the University of Hawaii by Dr. Jim Gilbert. More information on the Kewalo tomato can be found here:
The bed we added plants to is our pepper bed. We added two more Jalapeño plants and a Bett bell which is a type of bell pepper. So this particular bed is just peppers. Other than the varieties mentioned, we also have Hawaiian chili, Serrano, and sweet bell. ————————————————————————
As for the two new grow beds, we moved the okra plants that were once w/ the tomatoes. In that same bed, we added two trays of papaya seeds. We’re going to start them in the system then transplant them into soil once they’re big enough. The papaya seeds are actually for my dad. As for the second new grow bed, we’re going to dedicate it to just brocolli.
That’s about it, until next time :) Stay safe! ————————————————————————#aquaponicssystem #mauiaquaponics #hawaiiaquaponics #sustainableliving #sustainable #sustainability #growyourownfood #gardenlife #gardening #hawaiilife #maui #hawaii #universityofhawaii #kewalotomatoes
