But you STILL want to get lean, strong, and feel more confident than ever. Note: This is not some experimental challenge group. This is Happy Physique, my premiere coaching process! One of the BEST ways to improve your workouts during this time is utilizing TEMPO work. . . In this video, I’m doing a squat variation where I’m slowing down the eccentric (lowering phase) of the rep to about 3-4 seconds. . . If your goal is hypertrophy (building/retaining muscle mass), this can be beneficial for a few reasons. . . 1️⃣You’re able to really dial in on your technique so then when you go back to “regular speed” reps, you’ve ingrained better motor patterns that will hopefully translate to better form. . . 2️⃣You’re able to make each rep harder so you don’t have to use as much weight. This can be beneficial if your body is getting beat up by heavy loads so often to where your joints and central nervous system may need a break, but your muscles are still fully recovered. The slower tempo allows you to reduce the weight on the bar but still get an effective stimulus for building muscle. This can also help if you just don’t have access to heavy weight at this time. . . 3️⃣You don’t have to do as many reps. The optimal rep range for building muscle seems to be in the 6-30 rep range. So why not just do 20 regular reps with the same weight instead of 10 tempo reps? With something like the back squat, we’re more likely to fatigue and stop simply by getting out of breath than by actually getting close to muscular failure if we’re doing an extremely high rep range - which ultimately limits the amount of hypertrophy we get. . . 4️⃣Also, a key to hypertrophy is progressively overloading over time which may come in the form of adding reps. To do this optimally, we want each rep to look the EXACT same. If we’re doing 25 reps of barbell squats and we’re on the brink of passing out, we’re more likely to have form breakdown and/or cut range of motion in an attempt to simply get more reps. But if we can limit our reps to the 8-10 range for these heavy compound movements, it makes it easier to really concentrate and make each rep identical. . . Ideally, you want to utilize a controlled tempo for every rep of every exercise - but these exaggerated eccentrics can be VERY useful for all of us during this time without access to as heavy of weights as usual.

Keto Pizza chips!! 🍕😋 This is easily a top 5 favorite keto snack of mine!! What are your go-to keto snacks?⁣ 🍕🍕🍕 ⁣⠀ 8 tbsp shredded mozzarella⁣⠀ 8 pepperonis ⁣⠀ Seasonings of your preference⁣⠀ ⁣⠀ 1. Preheat oven to 350F. Create 8 piles of cheese on a parchment lined a baking sheet, top with pepperoni, & season.⁣⠀ 2. Bake for 7 minutes. If you want them to be extra crispy, broil for the last minute or two. Take out, let harden, & enjoy!⁣⠀ ⁣⠀ Macros: ⁣⠀ Serving size is 4 chips. ⁣⠀ recipe makes 2 servings.⁣⠀ Calories: 130⁣⠀ Fat: 10h⁣⠀ Protein: 9g⁣⠀ Net carbs: 1g⁣⠀ Fiber: 0g⁣⠀ ⁣⠀ Notes: the more you salt them; the less greasy they will be. Each pile of cheese should be 1 tbsp. I try to make the piles slightly bigger than the pepperonis! MEET FARMER 👨‍🌾 JEFF . Before anyone asks, no, I am not a farmer. In fact, I am the furthest thing from an outdoorsman as there possibly is. . But I have learned to love cultivating the earth 🌎 and being responsible for our own food. . I enjoy being outside, getting sun burnt ☀️ and working hard. . Because let’s be honest, people stopped gardening because it was tough work, and going to the grocery store was REALLY easy. . This year we are not only doing our own garden at home, but also joined a large community garden (shown above). . You put in at least an hour of time a week, and you can reap the harvest when it arrives. . We always end up spending a couple hours, and right now is just pure manual labor. . Digging, weeding and digging some more. . The hard work will pay off when the harvest comes, just like the hard work we do on ourselves will pay off one day too. . It just takes hard work and dedication. . When you think about it, isn’t that the key to success for anything? Hard work and dedication? . I certainly think so, do you? . I’ve been maintaining my healthy weight for over 15 months now, probably the longest I’ve been at a healthy and stable weight in over 20 years. 🙏🏻 What made it possible? I was going to post about my workout, but I’m feeling emotional right now. 😞 I’m just hearing that school in Washington state is closed until September. I know my teacher friends are so sad they didn’t even get to say goodbye to their students. No graduation for seniors. No camp for 5th graders. We all know it’s necessary, but it doesn’t make it easier. It’s interesting that I chose to wear my WSU hat this morning for my workout. 🤔 . And I wonder if that’s coming to Florida, too. I think it is. My son misses school. He doesn’t like being on the computer all day. (Getting a little taste of work, isn’t he?) He misses being around other kids. He’s an only child so he’s with his parents 24/7. Lame! . Of course, it’s all very necessary. We need to save people and kill this virus. My heart especially hurts for those who’ve lost loved ones during this time and weren’t able to hug them or say goodbye. 💔 . Wow, sorry for the depressing post, guys. I always want to be happy and share inspiration so that you can get after your health and fitness goals, but things just got to me. . I hope you are taking care of yourselves however you need to.
